Mecklenburg
Open Door operates five group
homes, three supervised
apartment facilities and
nineteen scattered site condominiums serving
adults with severe and
persistent mental illness in
Mecklenburg County, NC. All but one of
these facilities are funded by
the Federal Department of
Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) and are affiliated with
Mental Health Association of
North Carolina, Mental Health
Association of Central Carolinas
and Mecklenburg Area Mental
Health Authority. One
group home is owned by a
neighborhood association in
Charlotte that has demonstrated
a unique concern for its
residents. Each group home is
licensed under Mecklenburg Open
Door by the NC Division of
Facility Services and each
facility is
credentialed by Mecklenburg Area
Mental Health Authority. In a group home, six adults
live together in a community
setting. Each are provided
supervision and instruction at a
level established by an
individualized plan for each
resident. Instruction may
include: medication management,
budgeting and meal planning,
personal care and hygiene,
shopping, cooking, housekeeping
and utilizing community
resources. Each client
spends their day just like any
other person, including
participation in work, school,
training, volunteering, hobbies
and play.
At our supervised
apartments and condominiums, clients live more
independently. Staff
visits regularly to support and
guide the client's plan for
recovery and independence.
Staff is available to these
clients 24 hours a day, if
needed in an emergency. |
