Recovery is a personal process of overcoming the negative impact of a mental illness despite its continued presence.

Mecklenburg Open Door endorses a philosophy of mental health recovery.  Contrary to early research in the field, mental illness is not a chronic state in which stability is the best outcome of our efforts.  Instead, the model of recovery opens up the door for an individual to achieve multiple outcomes, despite their mental illness.  Today's mental health treatment and community support incorporates the industry's best practices under a recovery focus.

We participate in Mecklenburg's Promise, a community collaborative of area agencies, consumers and advocacy groups working together to introduce mental health recovery to Mecklenburg County.
