Mecklenburg Open Door currently operates five group homes in Mecklenburg County, NC:

  • Austin House
  • Briarcreek
  • Carmel Forest
  • Cedar Street
  • McAlway
  • COMING SOON: Stonehaven House

What is a group home?
In a group home, six adults live together in a community setting. Each are provided supervision and instruction at a level established by an individualized plan for each resident. Instruction may include: medication management, budgeting and meal planning, personal care and hygiene, shopping, cooking, housekeeping and utilizing community resources. Each resident spends their day just like any other person, including participation in work, school, training, volunteering, hobbies and play.

Who is eligible?
The program is open to adult residents of Mecklenburg County who are diagnosed with either severe and persistant mental illness (SPMI), or serious mental illness (SMI) and who also have Community Support Services.

Hours of service and locations:
Group Homes are staffed on a 24 hour basis and are located throughout Mecklenburg County.
