The achievement of the goals of MOD is best served by the active participation of citizens of the community. To this end, the agency accepts and encourages the involvement of volunteers at all levels of the agency and within all appropriate programs and activities. A volunteer must be officially accepted by MOD before performing any related task. Volunteers are not considered MOD employees and are ineligible for employment-related benefits.

MOD also accepts as volunteers or interns those participating in student community service activities, academic internships, alternative diversion programs, corporate volunteer programs, and other volunteer referral programs. Volunteers will be given meaningful assignments; the right to be treated as equal contributors as their paid counterparts; the right to effective supervision; and the right to full involvement.
